People have a right to know when their private information is compromised
HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie says the Liberal government should inform people if their personal health information has been mistakenly released.
“People absolutely have the right to know if their personal information has been released inappropriately. Mistake or not, it’s only fair that people are made aware,” says Baillie. “I’m shocked that this information is getting out and the Liberal government is not telling people.”
CBC reported this week that personal mental health information has been inadvertently faxed to a spa in Bedford for more than a decade. One gentleman, who wished to remain anonymous, was never told by his doctor or the government that his information was sent to this spa, rather than the clinic.
Baillie says more has to be done to protect people’s information and inform them if their information has been compromised.
“People deserve better than this,” says Baillie. “The Liberals have been saying for years that they are reviewing the rules around protection of personal information but it’s time for action. This is unacceptable.”
