McNeil government wasting precious time

HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie says Stephen McNeil is wasting time on fixing the unconstitutional electoral boundaries. He’s calling on Premier McNeil to recall the Legislature to appoint an independent boundary review commission to set new boundaries before the upcoming election.

“What is Stephen McNeil waiting for? The boundaries need to be redrawn before the next election and time is ticking away,” said Baillie. “Premier McNeil must do the right thing and fix the boundaries now.”

Forty-four days have passed since the current boundaries were deemed unconstitutional by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal because interference was used by the previous government to eliminate minority Acadian and African Nova Scotian seats.

Baillie says the time is right now to fix this issue and make sure the new boundaries are set for the election.

“Recall the legislature and let’s set an independent boundary review commission to set new boundaries. That’s the only fair way forward,” says Baillie. “It is wrong for Stephen McNeil to use his power as Premier to his own political advantage.”
