Victoria-The Lakes MLA Keith Bain says protections will now be in place for volunteers who use automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).
Bain’s amendments to the Volunteer Services Act, which protect a volunteer who uses an automatic external defibrillator (AED) in an emergency situation from lawsuits, passed the legislature with all-party support. The new law will also extend protection to organizations whose AED may be used, including as part of Nova Scotia’s public registry.
“This is an important step forward and will save lives. I’m very pleased to see this important change pass in the House of Assembly,” says Bain. “People are nervous to use AEDs for fear of liability. Now we’ve made sure they are protected.”
Bain wants to see more AED’s registered at http://savelivesns.ca/
“I encourage everyone out there who has an AED to register it,” said Bain. “That way, together, we can save lives.”
