Congratulations to our October 20 by-election candidates Allan MacMaster in Inverness and Darren Thompson in Antigonish for running two excellent campaigns. On behalf of the Provincial Executive, I would like to thank them and their campaign teams for a tremendous effort.

It is no easy feat organizing by-election campaigns only a few short months after the provincial general election. All Progressive Conservatives owe these candidates and their workers a debt of gratitude for representing our party so well.

ANTIGONISH, NS - Progressive Conservative candidate Darren Thompson expressed his disappointment today with the NDP government's refusal to support a new public library for Antigonish.

"Every other level of government has contributed to this project and the community has contributed but the provincial government is letting us down," said Thompson.

Pressure from Progressive Conservative candidate leads to funding announcement

ANTIGONISH, NS - Antigonish Progressive Conservative candidate Darren Thompson says today’s announcement of $1.5 million in funding for the People’s Place Library came as no surprise.

“The government was under intense pressure to deliver on this project,” said Thompson. “They were hearing about it everywhere - in the newspapers, on the radio, in the House of Assembly. This is welcome news, but a desperate move by the NDP government.”

ANTIGONISH - Darren Thompson was confirmed as the candidate for the Progressive Conservatives at a meeting of over 150 local supporters at Antigonish's John Paul Centre last night.

Thompson, a physiotherapist and father of three, is well known in the sports community and has a long record of community service.

"I am pleased to accept this nomination," said Thompson. "I pledge that I will work hard to win this campaign and continue to work hard to make sure our communities are strongly represented in government."

Nomination meeting scheduled for Friday

ANTIGONISH, NS - Antigonish physiotherapist Darren Thompson, 40, has declared his intention to seek the nomination for the PC Party in the Antigonish byelection.

A nomination meeting will be held in Antigonish on Friday, September 25th to select a candidate to represent the party in the October 20th contest.

INVERNESS, NS - The Progressive Conservative Party will be represented by Allan MacMaster in the October 20th by-election in Inverness.

Over 300 supporters packed the Inverness Fire Hall today and selected MacMaster, 34, an investment advisor from Judique.

MacMaster is a Business Administration graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and now works for one of North America’s leading full service investment firms. He was also an assistant to former Inverness MLA Rodney MacDonald.

The Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party is pleased to announce two staff changes today.

Christina Lamey has joined headquarters staff as Manager of Fundraising and Communications. Lamey was the Communications Manager at the PC Caucus Office and the Director of Communications on the PC Party’s campaign team.

Ross Haynes, Q.C., the Chair of the PC Nova Scotia Fund says that he is looking forward to working with Lamey and strengthening the Party’s finances.
