A native of Judique, Allan is a proud Nova Scotian who is passionate about creating real opportunities for the communities of Inverness County. He is the son of Marie and Buddy MacMaster and a Business Administration graduate of St. Francis Xavier University.
Prior to his election in 2009, Allan was employed with BMO Nesbitt Burns, one of North America’s leading full service investment firms. In 2008 Allan proposed a new investment platform which gained acceptance and has since been implemented as an investment option for clients of BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc. across Canada. He has also served in senior levels of the Nova Scotia Provincial Government. This experience provides him with a unique insight into how government decisions affect people and our economy.
With 11 years of experience working with all levels of government, he has proven his ability to work across political party lines for the good of his constituency. He does not place limits on his ability to make things happen as an opposition MLA, and eagerly helps people with all matters, even those beyond the powers of provincial government.
True to the area he represents, Allan has spoken French and Gaelic in the provincial legislature and is attempting to learn some Mi’kmaw. He is one of eight MLAs on the Public Accounts Committee of the Legislature that examines the value we get for our tax dollars, so we can continuously improve government. He has used his financial background to help those on fixed incomes to make sure they are receiving all available sources of income, and to help organizations who need to manage budgets or complete projects.
Allan is a member of St. Andrew’s Parish in Judique, Past President of the Judique Recreation Association and Past President of the Cape Breton Super-Gents Hockey League. He has written a monthly column for the Nova Scotia Business Journal entitled “Building Your Wealth,” whereby readers can discover wealth building ideas to help them optimize their investment returns. In his spare time, Allan enjoys travel, reading about history, economics, people of the world, playing soccer, hockey and guitar.
In 2013 Allan received an “A” grade from The Inverness Oran for his performance representing the constituency of Inverness.
