Matthew Donahoe was born and raised in Nova Scotia. During his grade school years Matthew started working with people who had exceptionalities, disabilities. Matthew did this in a few forms Special Olympics swim volunteer, job coach for high school students with exceptionalities and an in home care giver at a small option group home for most of the 90’s in the Needham area, this love of helping others fostered a desire for him to become a teacher. He is a jack of all trades having studied Culinary Arts at NSCC, obtained his BA from Acadia University in Theater arts and English, Matthew is a trained actor, director and stage carpenter. UNB was Matthew’s last school where he obtained his B. Ed.
His greatest joy in life is spending time with his wife Marsha and his two boys Kieran and Nathaniel. The boys give Matthew an excuse to be the biggest kid in the house. When not working, the family loves taking day trips around the province to see our wonderful museums and parks. Not opposed to getting dirty the family can often be seen in their tent camping.
Matthew took an interest in politics in the early 90’s when he became the vice president of the PC youth group. The desire for a career had Matthew step away from his political interests. The recent issues that the province has seen, from his fellow teachers, the arts community and the cutting of the tax credit for film productions, to his friends and family who have searched in vain for a family doctor, drove him to want a change.
