Melanie Russell
Constituency : Dartmouth North

As the youngest in a family of five, with grandparents having settled in Tuft’s Cove from Pleasantville in the 1940s, Melanie counts a long family tradition as a Dartmouthian.

Having lived and worked across Canada, Melanie brings a wealth of experience ranging from hotel management, to non-profit leadership and fund development, entrepreneurship and teaching both in the public and secondary school systems. Being from a family of entrepreneurs, Melanie has seen and experienced both the trials and rewards of self-employment.

Melanie’s concern for social justice issues was cemented when she joined the School Lunch Association as their Fund Development Manager, and she whole-heartedly believes that providing a non-stigmatizing “hot, nutritious lunch for primary and elementary school children, regardless of a families’ financial situation” is a key to success for those who need it.

Melanie believes in doing the right thing, helping others, giving people a hand up whenever possible, following through, and being kind to others. Since arriving ‘back home”, Melanie has been involved in a number of volunteer pursuits such as the Halifax Jazz Festival, the Deep Roots Music Festival, Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, the MS Society, Alderney Landing events, and the PC Party of Nova Scotia, among others.
