Desperate Dexter at it again

HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie says the real solution to tackling the high cost of living lies in making life more affordable for Nova Scotia families.

Today, the Dexter NDP attempted to mislead voters by suggesting the Progressive Conservatives oppose minimum wage increases. In reality, the Progressive Conservatives initiated the process of tying increases in the minimum wage to the rate of inflation.

“Darrell Dexter is once again trying to deflect from his failed record that has seen 2,700 Nova Scotians lose full time jobs under his watch,” said Baillie. “The Premier knows full well his NDP government is to blame for the increases in the cost of living with their tax hikes, power rate increases, job losses and their obsession with giving big handouts to rich companies.”

Baillie says his party’s plan, Change That Works, will make life more affordable for Nova Scotia families by lowering taxes, freezing power rates, stopping wasteful spending and creating more jobs.

“Nova Scotians are struggling and need relief,” said Baillie. “Our plan will put more money in their pockets and put an end to the high tax, high spend agenda of the Liberals and the NDP.”

Baillie also pointed out it was the Progressive Conservative government of former Premier John Hamm that established the minimum wage review committee, bringing together representatives of employers and employees for the purpose of recommending increases in the minimum wage. All of the committee’s recommendations were accepted by the government.

Baillie was the Chief of Staff to Premier John Hamm when the committee was established.

When the Progressive Conservatives were in government, the minimum wage was increased fairly each year.

Baillie also called on the Dexter NDP to end their campaign of mistruths and inaccuracies and to instead follow his party’s lead by focusing on making life more affordable for Nova Scotia families.
