FACT CHECK: But what happens when the hospital shuts down?

HALIFAX, NS – Today, Stephen McNeil’s Liberals unveiled their health care plan.

FACT: In the Spring of 2012, a labour dispute caused hundreds of procedures at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax to be cancelled. When Jamie Baillie and the Progressive Conservatives introduced legislation to end work stoppages in the health care sector, Stephen McNeil took a side. It wasn’t with the patients. He stood with Darrell Dexter and the health care unions.

FACT: When legislation was tabled in the House of Assembly to avert a possible strike by the province’s paramedics, Stephen McNeil again put health care unions ahead of patients and voted against the bill.

FACT: The Liberal health care plan does not address work stoppages during labour disputes in hospitals.

FACT: Only the Progressive Conservatives will put patients first and end work stoppages during labour disputes in hospitals. A Progressive Conservative government will resolve disputes in health care fairly through arbitration instead of through strikes or lockouts.

Earlier today, Cape Breton Centre Progressive Conservative candidate Edna Lee reminded Nova Scotians of Stephen McNeil’s shameful record of putting health care unions ahead of patients in the healthcare system.
