HALIFAX, NS – The Progressive Conservatives have some questions about the price tag the NDP attached to their announcement of 712 replacement beds this morning.
FACT: At Public Accounts Committee on January 9, 2013, Kevin McNamara, Deputy Minister of the Department of Health and Wellness said, “A replacement nursing home bed’s average construction cost is $370,600 based on 2010-11 dollars…[i]”
FACT: McNamara says per bed construction is $370,600, while the NDP claim costs of just over $22,000.
FACT: At $370,600 this announcement should cost over $263 million, but the NDP claim it will only cost $16 million.
The numbers just don’t add up. Who is right – the NDP or the Department of Health and Wellness Deputy Minister?
