Progressive Conservative leader Tim Houston today called on Premier McNeil to call an immediate byelection in the constituency of Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River.
“Because Lenore Zann refused to do the right thing and resign, the people of Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River will not be represented at Province House when the Legislature resumes in a few weeks,” Houston said. “By calling a by-election right away, the Premier will decrease the amount of time those constituents go without an MLA and give them an opportunity for representation this Session.”
Three PC MLAs resigned soon after being nominated as candidates in the federal election and the Premier kept his promise to call immediate byelections. Zann continued to draw her MLA salary even as she campaigned for another job.
“Like the rest of the province, people in Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River are grappling with a healthcare crisis, issues in our schools, a struggling economy and deteriorating roads and infrastructure,” Houston said. “If a by election is not called, they will have no one to turn to for help.”
