SYDNEY, NS – Educator and community advocate Laurie MacIntosh will be the Progressive Conservative candidate in Sydney-Whitney Pier in the upcoming provincial election. She won the nomination on Sunday, April 23, 2017.
MacIntosh has deep family ties to Sydney-Whitney Pier and is excited to represent the area. An educator with over 30 years of working with students and teachers says the mess Stephen McNeil made to public education is a major motivation for her to enter public life.
“Education is key to improving the lives of our young people which enhances the well-being of our communities,” says MacInstosh. “If we properly invest in our children’s future, we are guaranteed to see economic success. Stephen McNeil doesn’t understand this, but Progressive Conservatives get it.”
MacIntosh says Sydney-Whitney Pier residents are disappointed in the McNeil Liberals and are ready for a change.
“There’s a lot of dissatisfaction with the McNeil Liberal government’s indifference towards youth, seniors and specifically their inaction on development and job creation,” says MacIntosh. “I know that Jamie Baillie has the vision and plan to grow our economy. He is ready to invest in neglected sectors like education, healthcare and infrastructure. Our communities need action.”
Baillie is thrilled to welcome Laurie to the PC team.
“Laurie has played a crucial role in helping students navigate the education system and create a sense of community and belonging in the classroom,” says Baillie. “I can’t think of any better qualities residents of Sydney-Whitney Pier would want in their MLA. She is a lifelong learner and I know she will take all these exceptional qualities to the legislature. She is a strong addition to our growing PC team.”
Laurie with her husband Ron are proud parents of Ranee and Connor.
