Message from Co-Chairs Leadership 2010

August 23, 2010

Message from your 2010 Leadership Selection Committee Co-Chairs:

There is certainly a lot to report since our last update.
Just after the close of nominations on August 16, the committee’s chief elections officer informed us that Jamie Baillie was the sole accredited leadership candidate.

We wish to congratulate Jamie Baillie, who will become the next leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia at our leadership convention in Halifax, October 29 and 30.

As per Article 12 of the party’s constitution, a party leader must be elected by party members at a convention of which notice was given 75 days in advance of that meeting.  This notice of 75 days was issued August 13.

In October 2009, the party ratified leadership selection rules that prepared for a contested nomination. After consultation with caucus, the leadership planning committee, and provincial executive, the rules were amended to satisfy the requirements of the constitution, while preparing for a single-nominee convention.  The most significant amendment to the rules was the elimination of the constituency delegate selection meetings.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be posting more information regarding the convention and registration. The convention will be open to both members of the party and non-members. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us or send an e-mail to: leadership2010@pcparty.ns.ca

Please be sure to hold October 29 and October 30 as important dates on the calendar.

Alice McCarron and George White

Message from Co-Chairs Leadership 2010

Since being named co-chairs on September 12th, we have been pulling together a committee and have focused on drafting rules for the leadership selection process.

The first focus of our committee has been to prepare the rules to guide Leadership 2010. We consulted with the party's presidents council at a meeting in Bible Hill on October 3. The draft rules were adjusted based on the feedback of constituency presidents. The rules were approved by the provincial executive on October 24 and are available on our website.

The provincial executive has also approved a venue for the 2010 leadership convention, as well as a slight change in the date. The 2010 leadership convention will be held at the Cunard Centre in Halifax on October 29 and 30, 2010. We will post further updates on the process as decisions are made.
