Progressive Conservative Health Critic Karla MacFarlane says the Liberal government is intentionally turning a blind eye to the growing healthcare crisis.
Today, alarms were sounded again at the Standing Committee on Health – this time on serious gaps in offloading patients at ERs and the ongoing code critical campaign.
“This is a problem that causes thousands of Nova Scotians to suffer and puts public safety at risk,” MacFarlane said. “The Minister of Health should meet with paramedics and work toward a solution.”
At the conclusion of the committee, MacFarlane put forward a motion that the committee formally request that the Health Minister and the Premier personally meet with paramedics and EHS representatives.
The Liberal committee members used their majority to shut it down.
“I am disappointed that Liberal members of this committee would rather protect their own political interests than admit they have failed to address the healthcare crisis,” says MacFarlane. “The Health Committee was created for the purpose of addressing healthcare in this province yet the Liberals continue to play political games.”
MacFarlane says this government must stop treating this crisis like something that can be kicked down the road.
“We’re well past the point of hearing from this government that ‘we’re working on it,’” says MacFarlane. “People are terrified that they will call 911 and there will be no one there to help them. We need this Liberal government to get all hands on deck and make changes now.”
