Liberals vote down PC amendment to open up Halifax Water meetings

Tories call for greater transparency in Halifax Water Commission Board meetings.

Liberal MLAs have voted down a PC amendment to open up Halifax Water Commission Board meetings to the public.

PC MLAs introduced an amendment to Bill 82, and amendment to the HRM Charter, to include a clause that would open up meetings of the Water Commission to the public.

Residents throughout Halifax Regional Municipality have expressed concern over the secretive nature of the Halifax Water board meetings and have called for greater transparency in how it operates.

The Progressive Conservative Caucus has previously introduced legislative amendments to open up Halifax Water Commission meetings to the public. Each time the Liberal government has voted against those amendments.
