Cumberland South MLA Jamie Baillie has tabled a petition demanding a new elementary school for Springhill.

“The Liberal government has ignored the families of Springhill for far too long,” says Baillie. “The school situation has become so desperate, I fear student’s learning is at risk.”

West End Elementary and Junction Road Elementary are fraught with leaks, cramped gymnasiums and outdated plumbing and amenities.

“This government is playing politics with children’s education,” says Baillie. “It’s disgraceful.”

Recently, the Auditor General found the McNeil Liberals ignored objective rankings of new schools and had cabinet intervene to fund schools in Tatamagouche and Bridgetown. Those two schools are in Minister Karen Casey’s and Premier McNeil’s constituencies.

The petition was signed by 261 community members.
