On Thursday, Argyle-Barrington MLA Colton LeBlanc asked the Minister of Education to confirm whether the new Wedgeport School will be ready for students by September 2021.
“Local residents need confirmation that their school will be replaced as promised,” LeBlanc said. “They want their kids to learn in a safe place,”
A replacement for École Wedgeport was announced in April 2018. The project’s estimated start date is listed as 2019-20 in the Capital Plan.
In response to questions from LeBlanc, Minister Zach Churchill said the technical evaluation for site selection is almost complete and that one or more sites, close to the existing school, will then be presented to the community for feedback.
The Minister said the school should open on schedule even though the attached community centre may take longer to build.
“I know how important the school is to students, parents and the community,” LeBlanc said. “I asked the Minister to keep the community informed and I will continue to ensure he does.”
