NDP list does nothing to address concerns about their fundraising
HALIFAX - Late yesterday, the NDP released a list of donations that was only 26 per cent complete.
"We called Elections Nova Scotia and decided to release all of our donations. It was a 19 page list," said PC Party spokesman Jordi Morgan. The NDP took five days to produce a two and a half page list that omits all individual donations.
"Since all donations are made understanding that they will become public knowledge, there are no privacy concerns involved here. We want real transparency," said Morgan.
Morgan said the NDP also must answer some simple questions. "Did the NDP return any more cheques?," asked Morgan. "How many union leaders are individual donors?"
Morgan said the Progressive Conservative Party produced a full list and the NDP's so called privacy concerns are an unacceptable excuse to hide public information from Nova Scotians.
"Nova Scotians deserve this information before election day."
The list also shows under $50,000 in total donations from unions. The controversial donation from the Mainland Nova Scotia Building and Construction Trades Council would have, in a single day, doubled that amount.
