ANTIGONISH, NS - Antigonish physiotherapist Darren Thompson, 40, has declared his intention to seek the nomination for the PC Party in the Antigonish byelection.

A nomination meeting will be held in Antigonish on Friday, September 25th to select a candidate to represent the party in the October 20th contest.

Thompson has been active in the Antigonish community for many years. As a former president of the Antigonish Highland Society, he has been a key organizer of the Highland Games and currently serves as Chief of the Clans. Thompson was also the 2007 representative Volunteer of the Year for Antigonish County.

Active in local sports, Thompson is the president of minor soccer in Antigonish and the assistant coach of the Dr. John Hugh Gillis high school boys' team. He has also coached minor hockey and under-12 soccer.

A father of three, Thompson and his wife Michelle are contributing members of St. Ninian's Parish. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Thompson says he brings a fresh outlook to politics and hopes the voters of the constituency of Antigonish share his vision for the future of their town and county.

“I believe it is important that we have a hard-working and committed MLA representing our concerns in the Legislature,” said Thompson. “My commitment to the future of our communities is to listen to residents and take action to ensure our community thrives."

Candidates interested in running for the PC Party must declare their candidacy by Tuesday, September 22.
