QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q1: Does a person, who’s being added to the long serving member list, have to have been a member of the Party for 2009 or any prior year?  Does a person, whose being added to the long serving member list have to be a member of the Party on the date the Constituency Association makes the list?  Likewise, does a person, whose being added to the long serving member list, have to be a member on the date when the constituency submits the list to PC HQ?  Does the person, whose being added to the long serving member list, have to be a member by 31 March 2010?

A1: The person does not have to be a member of the Party on any of the above-referenced dates.  But a person on the list MUST be a member on Sept 14 to be nominated as a delegate.

Q2: Who qualifies as a “long serving member”?

A2: The determination of who qualifies as “long serving” for the list is wholly within the discretion of each Constituency Association.

_____

Q3: Is there separate voting to elect the six (6) long serving members?

A3: No, the voting occurs at the same constituency DSM; there is no separate balloting. When you get a ballot, you simply vote for up to 50 delegates. When the counting of the ballots for the constituency association delegate selection meeting is being completed, the six members with the most votes from the long serving member list will be counted first. Then the members on the list who didn’t get selected through the long serving process will still have a chance to be chosen in the remaining delegate spots.

Q4: Do the delegate selection meeting rules apply to the Conservative Women’s Caucus and PC Nova Scotia Fund? If not, how do their ex officio delegate spots get chosen?

A4:  The definition of a delegate selection meeting is a meeting of a constituency association or a qualifying association to select delegates and, where appropriate, alternate delegates to represent the constituency association or qualifying association at the Convention. Neither the Conservative Women’s Caucus nor PCNS Fund is a constituency or qualifying association; therefore, the DSM rules do not apply. It is up to the members of the Board of PCNS Fund and the members of the Women’s Caucus of NS to determine a fair process in which their delegates will be chosen by Oct. 14th.  Participation in any meeting of the Board or Caucus for purposes of making its selection does not preclude the same person from registering at a delegate selection meeting or, if the person has not been chosen by the Board or Caucus to be an ex officio  delegate, does not preclude the person from being nominated at a delegate selection meeting.  While the person selected must have been a member of the Board or the Caucus as it was composed on 1 February, 2010, the person must be a member of the Party no later than 14 September, 2010.
