Nova Scotia PCs gather in Antigonish this weekend
HALIFAX – The provincial executive of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia will be meeting Saturday, March 27, in Antigonish’s John Paul Centre. It will be the organization’s first face to face meeting since the party’s provincial annual meeting held in Halifax last month.
“Antigonish is an important constituency to our party and we appreciate the strong support Antigonish voters gave to our candidate Darren Thompson in the last October’s by-election,” said Progressive Conservative Leader Karen Casey. “Holding this provincial executive meeting in Antigonish is a small way our party can say thank you to Darren and his local team of workers.”
On February 6, at the party’s provincial annual meeting in Halifax, Progressive Conservative Party president Rob Batherson presented Antigonish PC candidate Darren Thompson and official agent Mary McCarron with the annual president’s award. The award is presented each year to recognize the efforts of grassroots PCs in support of the aims and principles of the party.
“It’s a credit to Antigonish Progressive Conservatives that through their work with a great new candidate in Darren Thompson, our party finished such a strong second place to the NDP,” said Batherson. “Our party will continue to support the Antigonish PCs so that come the next provincial general election, the voters will elect Darren Thompson as their next MLA.”
Thompson said he is pleased the provincial executive has chosen Antigonish for their first meeting. Thompson and Duncan MacDonald, president of Antigonish PC Association, will be attending the closed door session of the provincial executive as guests.
“From the Central Nova Conservative Dinner with our MP Peter MacKay last month at St. Ninian’s to the recent Antigonish PC Association annual meeting, PC Party members have been extremely active in this constituency,” added Thompson. “Holding the party’s provincial executive meeting here in Antigonish will be a great boost to the morale of local party members.”
