HAMMONDS PLAINS, NS – HRM Councillor Matt Whitman will be the Progressive Conservative candidate in the upcoming provincial election. Whitman was officially acclaimed the party’s standard-bearer on February 25th.
“I haven’t stopped working for our community since the day I was elected in 2012. I’m thrilled to be able to continue fighting for the people of Hammonds Plains-Lucasville at the provincial level,” said Whitman. “My track record speaks for itself. The people of Hammonds Plains-Lucasville know they can count on me to put them first. The best way for me to do that now is as a member of Jamie Baillie’s Progressive Conservative team.”
Whitman says his constituents are increasingly frustrated with the direction the province is going under Premier Stephen McNeil.
“People are tired of being told they just have to accept sub-par services in important areas like health care and education,” said Whitman. “As Progressive Conservatives, we have a plan to turn around the economy so we can invest in services and make life better for people. With Jamie Baillie, we have a leader who knows how to get the job done.”
Jamie Baillie says he will be relying heavily on Whitman’s municipal experience and community connections in the next Progressive Conservative government.
“Turning around the economy and getting our province on the right track will be an all-hands-on-deck effort,” said Baillie. “High caliber people make all the difference and I’m excited to know we’ll have Matt at the table. His energy, enthusiasm and common-sense approach will be a big asset for our next Progressive Conservative government.”
The Hammonds Plains-Lucasville Progressive Conservatives will schedule an official nomination meeting in the coming weeks to celebrate Whitman’s candidacy.
