Stephen McNeil’s plan will drive the economy further into the ditch

HALIFAX, NS – Only the Progressive Conservatives will eliminate the cabinet-controlled slush fund at the department of Economic Development.

This morning Darrell Dexter defended his corporate giveaways, but like the NDP leader, Stephen McNeil has no plan to stop doling out millions of taxpayers’ dollars from the slush fund.

Baillie says McNeil’s desire to make the taxpayer the “lender of last resort” proves he doesn’t understand how the economy works.

“Stephen McNeil says he would give taxpayers’ money away to the worst projects,” said Baillie. “No wonder he wants to keep the cabinet slush fund. He will need it, but Nova Scotians will pay.”

Baillie says the McNeil Liberals will not do what is necessary to grow the economy and create jobs.

“Stephen McNeil criticizes the Dexter NDP on economic development, but he will only make things worse,” said Baillie. “By leaving our taxes high, watching power rates go up more, and adding more debt, he will steer our economy further into the ditch.”

Baillie says eliminating the cabinet-controlled slush fund will save taxpayers’ over $90 million.

Baillie says a Progressive Conservative government will provide assistance to job creators with a solid business case through the arm’s-length Nova Scotia Business Inc.
