Tell Stephen McNeil to dedicate the spring session of the legislature to protecting survivors of sexual assault

HALIFAX, NS – Nova Scotians who want Premier Stephen McNeil to dedicate the Spring Session of the legislature to protecting sexual assault survivors can sign a new online petition launched by the Progressive Conservatives today.

“Since our call for an all-party approach to combating sexual violence this spring, many Nova Scotians have approached me asking what they can do to help urge Premier McNeil to take this seriously,” said Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie. “There is strength in numbers. Nova Scotians can apply their own pressure to the Premier by adding their names to our petition today.”

Last week, the McNeil Liberals said they opposed an all-party legislative package to combat sexual assault.

Baillie says he hopes a groundswell of support for the PC petition will cause the Premier to take a second look at developing an all-party approach to preventing sexual assault and protecting survivors.

“It’s obvious now the resources and laws we have in place fall short when it comes to protecting sexual assault survivors,” said Baillie. “We need all parties to come to the table so the full force of the legislature can be put to work protecting survivors.”

The Progressive Conservative petition is available online.
