HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie wants Stephen McNeil to stop stalling and demands an inquiry into Judge Gregory Lenehan’s disturbing comments.

The case of a Halifax taxi driver whose acquittal is now being appealed by the Crown, based on a lengthy list of errors of law, has sparked outrage across the country.

On Tuesday, Premier McNeil broke his almost week-long silence, but Baillie wants to know why he isn’t requiring a review of the Judge’s conduct.

“This isn’t a difficult choice. Accountability in our justice system, especially with something as serious as sexual assault, is needed right now,” said Baillie. “Premier McNeil must stop stalling and take action right away to call an inquiry. Sexual assault survivors and all concerned community members deserve it.”

Baillie wrote to the province’s Minister of Justice on Monday, urging the Liberal government to strike a formal inquiry, but hasn’t received a response.
