Cumberland South MLA Tory Rushton says the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal should investigate the safety of the Trans-Canada Highway to protect driver safety and give local residents peace of mind.
A depression in the westbound lane of the highway has become a concern because of its proximity to sinkholes in the area and the sinkhole that developed in the Lions Park last summer.
“Keeping drivers safe has to be our top priority,” Rushton said. “I brought the Deputy Minister of Transportation to see the depression and I will continue to ask for the province to investigate to make sure the area is stable.”
Rushton is working with MP Bill Casey to urge both the provincial and federal governments to undertake a formal investigation of the depression on the highway.
