Cumberland North MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin says it’s time for the McNeil Liberals to convene the new Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Economic Development.

“I know that the Liberals don’t like the scrutiny they receive at committee meetings,” Smith-McCrossin said. “But it is our duty and responsibility to hear about issues in our important resources industries and other areas of our economy.”

The former Economic Development committee hasn’t met since June 14, 2018, seven months.  The former Resources committee last met almost eight months ago on May 24, 2018.

“The government has finally called the new Health committee together,” said McCrossin. “It’s time for them to get moving on the Natural Resources and Economic Development committee.”

McCrossin said she would like to hear about challenges in the forestry sector and emerging opportunities in Nova Scotia’s growing IT industry.

“I urge the Liberal chair of the new committee, Suzanne Lohnes-Croft, to call a meeting so we can begin doing our jobs on this committee,” Smith McCrossin concluded.
