SYDNEY, NS – Alfie MacLeod is calling on Premier Stephen McNeil to remove failing Health Minister Leo Glavine from his position and appoint a new Minister who will take the healthcare crisis in Cape Breton seriously.
“For months, we’ve heard from Cape Breton doctors, patients and their families who are pleading for help,” says MacLeod. “But all this time, Stephen McNeil and Leo Glavine didn’t listen. As the Health Minister, Leo Glavine has let Cape Bretoners down.”
MacLeod says priorities for a new Health Minister must include addressing the shortage of family doctors, loss of Cape Breton specialists, wait times for hip and knee replacement surgeries, and wait times for mental health services.
“It’s time for the Premier to finally admit there is a healthcare crisis and appoint a Health Minister who’s prepared to meet with doctors within the next two weeks, to start addressing the growing list of problems,” says MacLeod.
Premier Stephen McNeil is scheduled to name cabinet tomorrow, Thursday, June 15 in Halifax.
